Appreciate yourself

Someone said something to me earlier this week that got me thinking. He said, "Life is good. I'm happier than I have ever been. So why do I complain? It's time to start appreciating everything I have - which is a lot. So I'm making today a no-complain day, and I'll try to do the same every day after that."

I'm pretty sure he was talking about a long day at work, but it got me thinking about body appreciation. Hearing him say these things got me thinking about my own sense of appreciation for the gifts I have been granted in life. For example, my physical strength is something I rarely give thanks for but it's something that's really important to me. My legs can carry me miles, my arms can lift my nieces and nephews, and my brain power can work overtime to help me understand and produce important work.

Our bodies are what carry us through life and also give life to others. That's pretty amazing. It's time we reverse the trend and start appreciating them for what they can do rather than bashing them for what they don't do or look like. If you are reading this, please comment below with at least ONE thing you appreciate about your body today. And then carry that thought with you throughout the day. I bet it will put a smile on your face!

A Little Spring Cleaning

Spring is one of my favorite times of the year.
Everything is alive again after the winter. Flowers are blooming, lilacs fragrant the air,  greens are sprouting, leaves are coming back to the trees.

And people start to open their windows, let out the stagnant air of winter, and do a little spring cleaning.

But perhaps this year it isn't just our floors that need to be scrubbed and counters that need to be shined.

With spring I like to evaluate my relationships with myself, other people, work, food and exercise and see where I can "clean up." Now is as good a time as any to do a little spring cleaning when it comes to our relationship with food, our bodies and our selves.

Now is a great time to let go of resentment towards ourselves, and accept our growth, our own blossoming.

Now is a great time to throw away the concept of "Good" and "bad" foods and know that food nourishes and fuels our bodies, and should not be somewhere that guilt lives.

Now is a great time to start a sparkling image of self worth, and appreciate for what our bodies can do on a regular basis. It's a great time to through out hesitations as clothes get lighter and it's almost bathing suit season.

Now is a great time to make a "To don't" list of things that do not support or help us to blossom, whether they be thoughts, people, or an environment we have found ourselves in
 Blossom this Spring!!!

How are you doing some spring cleaning?
